| 音楽の街Ennisを流れる川 |
エニスは小さい街ながらアイルランド伝統音楽の街として盛ん。
Ennis Trad Fest was held in Ennis, Co. Clare between November 5th and 9th. Ennis is a small town, but it is famous for being the centre of Irish trad music.
祭りの期間中は毎晩街中のパブやホテルでセッションがある。
レベルの高いセッションが日常的に行われているというが期間中は、やはり規模が違う。
一つのセッションでも数十人レベルのものもあり、かなり弾きごたえ・聴きごたえがある。
During the festival, there were loads of sessions at pubs and hotels throughout the night. I heard we could always listen to high level sessions, but the size of the sessions was bigger than normal occasions. You can easily find a big session where dozens of people join in. Listening to the music or even joining in is really impressive.

| クリスマスの準備も万端！ |
There was a workshop for each musical instrument between 11.30am and 1.30pm on Saturday 7th. Our fiddlers group was divided into two subgroups with one teacher each: McDara O’Raghallaigh and a lady(I’m sorry, but I couldn’t get her name in the end...).
夏に参加したmusic campと違い、短時間集中型。
レベルもまちまちだったため、駆け足で進んでいく～（といいつつ、やはりうまい人はすぐに飲み込んで３回くらい通したらスラスラと弾ける。恐るべし・・・）
同じ箇所を１フレーズ１人ずつ弾けば、十人十色。
なんであんなに温かみのある音が出るのだろう・・・
Different to the summer music camp, it was more intensive and for a shorter time. Though students’ levels were diverse, the speed of the class was like flying. It was amazing that some good fiddlers could absorb a tune in a minute just by playing three times. When the teacher let us play some of the same phrases one by one, it was obvious that we could feel the diversity of playing styles.
I was impressed by the others; how could they make such sweet and warm sounds?

２時間で７曲はさすがにキツかった～。。。
１週間たってもまだまだ消化不良・・・
It was really intensive; we learnt 7 tunes in two hours!!!!!!
I haven’t ‘digested’ these tunes yet even one week later.
隣の部屋でだいたいどこへ行っても嫌われ者のイリアンパイパーたちが弾いていて、
常時騒音(';')なレッスンだったけど、素敵なhornpipeも教えてもらったし、満足！
We could easily hear next door’s ‘noise’ from Ulleanpipers, who other musicians usually do not like. However, we learnt some lovely hornpipes and I was content with that workshop.
週末は昼間からパブやホテルといった街の至る所でセッションがあった。
と言いつつやはり本番は夜！
A lot of sessions were held at many locations such as pubs and hotels around the town from midday, especially at the weekend. However, the main time for the sessions was, of course, at night!!

外も冷え込んできたころに、どこのパブの演奏がいいかな～とモワッとした温かい室内に入る。
１杯のポーライナーを片手に演奏家の前にあるSnugと呼ばれる小部屋に腰を下ろす。
On one of the very cold nights, we were searching for a good pub session, and found a warm pub. And then, we sat down with a pint of Paulaner at a snug in front of the musicians.

そして、手に持ったグラスの底が見えると一段と冷え込んだ外に再び出て、
音のする方向へと向けて歩いていく。
その音量がmaxに達したところで足を止めた。２軒目のパブ。
When I reached the bottom of the glass of beer, it was time to leave for another pub, and we went out towards the sound of music. We stopped walking at the spot when the volume of music became really loud. It was the second pub.
メキシコのビール瓶を片手にぐいっと立ち飲み一杯。
さわやかなのど越しが、温かすぎるくらいの熱気のパブにはちょうどいい。
We stood up in front of the session area again, holding a bottle of Mexican beer. It was the perfect balance to enjoy this light refreshing beer in such a warm pub.

Bodhranを叩くおじいさんのテンポが独特。
We still tried to explore to find more sessions and walked down the main cobblestone narrow roads, which allowed only one car to pass through.
The rythm of the Bodhran which a guy was playing was very unique.

そのおじいさんは外国人と思われる客に「これは自分の祖父の骨なんだ」とまじめな顔をして脅かしていた。そんな訳ない。
Speaking of percussion, I saw an instrument made of bones for the first time. A guy scared one tourist saying “these bones belonged to my grandfather!”. He looked serious, but…no way!
狭い路地を通ってパブを回る。
音が大きくなったかと思えばさらに歩みを進めると音が微かに聞こえるくらい小さくなったりする。
いい音楽があれば、入ってみる。気に入らなければすぐに外に出て、また違うパブへ入る。
音の「波」を追って波乗りしているかのような心地よさだった。
The sessions lasted until late at night.
What an exciting journey we had; walking down some narrow alleys to reach pubs; When I walked around the town, the volume of music became bigger and sometimes smaller depending on the area. We entered pubs when we heard good music and went out if we heard better music somewhere else. I felt comfortable, as if I had been surfboarding to catch the “big waves” of the music.
冷たいところから温かいパブへ。
波のようにうねる音を求めて歩き回る。
機を織るかのようにいくつもの音の糸が交じり合っては重なっていく。
From chilly outside to the warm pubs, we walked around to meet music which was like rolling waves. Some rich sounds were mixed as if the string of sounds had been woven.
そんな肌で感じるアイルランドの音楽をアイルランドを離れたら恋しくなるんだろうな。
I guess I will miss this real Irish music when I leave this country someday.
１パイントのギネスビールを傍に置いて、セッションに参加してみた。
始めて１年半の私のフィドルはなかなか波に乗れない。
それでもミュージシャンの輪に１人の小さなミュージシャンとしていられることがうれしかった。
飴色の電灯が木造りのパブ全体を照らす。
いくつもの音が重なり合ってほっくりと温かい空間ができあがる。
この高揚感。アイルランドの秋の最高の過ごし方だと思う。
At last, I put aside my pint of Guinness behind me, and joined a session. I could not catch a wave very well with a short fiddle carreer of a year and half.
None the less, I was really hornoured to be there as a wee musician.
The brown sugar candy coloured lights lit up the whole room in the pub. A warm atmosphere was created by spinning some tunes.
I believe having the craic with THIS excitement is the best way to spend Irish autumn.
