アイルランド音楽サマーキャンプ Scoil Acla/ Irish music and culture summer camp Scoil Acla

アイルランド最大の島、メイヨー州のアキル島にて1週間のアイルランド音楽のサマーキャンプに参加してきた。
I participated in a week long Irish summer music school in the largest offshore island in Ireland, Achill Island, Co. Mayo.

アイルランドでは7,8月にかけて国内各地にて伝統音楽・ダンスや言語を中心としたアイルランド文化継承のためにサマースクールが開かれている。
メイヨー州が私のお気に入りで、メイヨー州であるスクールに行きたい！と思って1週間の休暇を取って参戦。
There are many other summer schools around Ireland between July and August to inspire in new generations a love for Irish culture such as traditional music, dance and language.
County Mayo is my favourite county in Ireland, so I had been dreaming of joining a summer school in Co. Mayo. This is why I ended up taking the chance at last to go.

 

サマースクールの中でもScoil Aclaは歴史がある方で、今年で30周年を迎えた。
月〜金曜の毎日10時から13時まで楽器ごと、レベルごとにミュージックワークショップ(因みに今年は30周年特別価格で割引かれ、参加費は75ユーロ)があり、他に籠編み体験やセッション等が行われた。
Scoil Acla celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and it is one of the longest summer schools in terms of its history amongst other summer music camps in Ireland.  From Monday to Friday, we had workshops in the morning between 10am and 1pm, divided depending on music instruments and grades (by the way, the cost of the whole week was only 75 EUR this year due to the special anniversary discount, but normally it’s also a reasonable: 95EUR).
Apart from the workshops, we got a basket weaving class, and sessions day and night.

火曜日は籠編体験へ。

以前、Skerriesでのミュージックワークショップでのクラス分けのためのグレーディング・テストで大ミスを冒していた私。今回はレッスンが1週間とだけあって失敗は繰り返さない！と意気込み、かなり前から密かに練習していた。
When I went to other music weekend workshop in Skerries earlier this year, I totally messed up with the grading test on the first day.  I was determined not to do the same, so I secretly practiced and practiced several tunes so that I could play perfectly on the first day this time.

月曜朝、早めに行ってちょっと練習しようかと思っていたら、クラス分け担当のJohnに適当な質問を受けただけであっさりとクラスを指定される。
内心、アレ！？
クラスに入ってから、ちょっと曲弾いてみて！と言われて1人ずつ弾いてみる。
まわりは老若男女問わず2-3年の経験者。
そしてあくまでも本人の意思を尊重するようで、もう1つレベルの高いクラスに行きたい！と全員が弾き終わった時点で願い出た。
残りの半分をPaddy Ryan率いる6レベル中上から2番目のクラスへ。
進度や技術面でもクラスかな！と思った。
でもネックとなる人物がひとりいた。あるおじいちゃん、、、
耳で聴いてなかなかうまく弾けないこのおじいちゃんのためにPaddyもほぼ1対1でつき、
私含め残りの19人は、「・・・」という感じ。みんなが見守っていた。と同時に「1週間どうなるかな」と内心感じていた。

On Monday, I arrived at the lesson venue a bit early because I was intending to practice. However, a teacher who would carry out the grading, John, showed up and allocated me a class after only a second, after asking me some questions, not by letting me play. I was like “whhhatt?!”.
In the class, the teacher, another John, asked us to play some short tunes, so we, around 20 students, played one by one in front of him. Everybody except me had been learning the fiddle over two years.  It seemed the teacher respected our wishes, so I asked the teacher to upgrade and let me move to other class. I joined the second highest class out of six taught by Paddy Ryan. I thought it was suitable class for me in terms of grade and technique I could apply. However, there was one ‘outstanding’ person in our group.  He was an old lad.  Paddy tried to teach him one by one, as he could not get tunes by learning by ear.  During that special one to one lesson time, other 19 students including myself had to wait to pass the time peacefully.  At the same time, I asked myself what it would be like this week.

Keem のビーチへ。

火曜、まだ私は迷っていた。
あのおじいちゃんはまだいるのだろうか。。
せっかくなら、一番上のクラスを見てみたい。。。ということで1日、Liam O’Connorのアドバンスクラスへ。
Atlantic Roar、John Kelly’s ReelそしてPaddy in Londonの合計3曲習った。
最後まで楽譜も何も配られない。
ただ耳でインプットして、その場で即座にアウトプットする。
この過程がみんな恐ろしいほど早くて、すぐに重音やロール、カットといった装飾も自在に入れている。普段、耳で習うことに慣れていない私は、完全置いてきぼり。
やりきれない悔しさが残る。と同時に、いつか到達したい領域が見えた。
明日からもここで踏ん張ろうと思ったが、今回は背伸びをしても届かない領域があることがわかっただけで収穫、とわりきってPaddyのクラスへ戻ることに。

On Tuesday, I was still like in a puzzle.
I was wondering whether that old guy was still there.
As I was curious how advanced the Advance class would have been, I upgraded further to the highest grade class, whose teacher was Liam O’Connor. He taught us three tunes that day: Atlantic Roar, John Kelly’s Reel and Paddy in London. Even after the end of the lesson, no music sheet was handed out. Simply enough, we input by ear and output immediately. I was really overwhelmed by the students in the class, because the process they absorbed music was crazy quick, and also they freely applied ornamentations such as double stops, rolls and cuts.  I have not gotten used to learning by ear, so I was way behind compared to others. I wished I could have done better, but I could see the next level I would like to reach soon.
One option was to straggle here from the following day like that day, but I chose to take the other option; that is, to go back to Paddy’s class. I thought it was meaningful to just notice that there was a level I could not reach even though I tried to touch it.

一方、そのPaddyのクラスから例のおじいちゃんが追い出され、1つ下のクラスへ行ったとの朗報(？)。
Meanwhile, I got the latest (good?) news that the old man had been thrown out from Paddy’s class, and joined the lower grade lesson.

島では、羊も柵のない所で放し飼い。

水曜、何事もなかったかのようにPaddyのクラスに戻った。3日目にしてやっといるべき場所がわかった(遅)。
昨日やった曲の楽譜も配られ、レッスン冒頭みんなが弾いている間に音源もゲット。このクラスでも1日3曲。でもやっぱ耳から学ぶ。みんな2-3回ずつフレーズを繰り返しただけでさっと全体通して弾けるのがすごかった。ここでも自分は置いてきぼり。2フレーズ目やったら一つ前のフレーズを忘れてしまうんだもの。わからないままレッスンが進んでゆく〜

On Wednesday, I came back to Paddy’s class as if nothing had happened. It was a bit late for the third day, but I finally figured out where to belong this week.
The teacher Paddy handed out the music they learnt previous day and I recorded tunes while others were playing.  In this class as well, we covered three tunes in a day. Of course, they learn by ear, too. It was amazing to find everybody could play immediately after they heard and repeated to play some phrases a few times. I could not follow them very well, because I easily forgot the previous bar while learning the second bar!! The lesson flew fast while I was struggling…

天と地が逆さま。

木曜、わからない場所をわからないと言えるようになった。例のおじいちゃんのこと、悪く言ってたけど明日は我が身。まわりの温かさに救われた。いろんな年代がごちゃまぜだったのだけど子供(中学生くらい)たちはものすごくたくさん曲を弾いてきているようだし、楽譜に頼らず耳で聴いて間違いを恐れず弾くから弾けるようになるのも早い！Paddyはアイリッシュ音楽の歴史家のような人。曲と曲の間にアイリッシュフィドラーのこととか地域によるスタイルのこととか教えてくれる。

Day 4- On Thursday, I could give a shout to Paddy that I had been confused a bit in certain parts of the tunes we were working on. I said something harsh about the old lad before, but the similar situation was about to occur at me!! However, other kind students helped me a lot. It was interesting to observe that especially children about junior school age seemed to have been playing hundreds of tunes and they were not afraid of making a mistake, so they were much faster to learn to play compared to older students in the class. The teacher Paddy was like a historian of Irish trad music. He taught us a lot inbetween about Irish fiddlers and some techniques which were different depending on regions in Ireland.

金曜、もう最終日。本当は土曜も2時間レッスンあって、その後クラスごとにステージに上がる発表会Open-air Concertがあるのだけど明日はダブリンで用事があるため泣く泣く今日のレッスン後に帰る。最後の3時間。耳で学ぶことに少しずつ慣れてきてPaddyの手を焼くことも少なくなってきた。Sligo地方のMountain Roadという本の紹介とその題名にもなった曲などを弾き、Foxhunter’s (Slip Jig)を〆に習い、終了！

On Friday, it was already the last day. Actually, there would be a two-hour lesson on Saturday and the open-air concert afterwards, where every classes and instruments played on stage. However, I had to head for Dublin with some other friends to make it to something else for the following day. The last three hours- I gradually got used to learning by ear and I had less time to make trouble for Paddy. We learned some tunes including a main tune from a tune book called “The Mountain Road” from south Sligo area. We called it a day with a lovely tune called Foxhunter’s Slip Jig.

毎日、表情を変えるAchill Island。

今回は他のアイリッシュ音楽を学ぶ人たちがどのくらいのペースで曲を吸収して行っているのか目の当たりにして刺激的だった。
サマースクールに出られるくらいのレベルまで1年2ヶ月で持ってこられたのはよかったけど、目標となる次に到達したいレベルが見つかったのも収穫。
今回のScoil Aclaではフィドルに関しては1クラス20人(アドバンスクラスは30名越え)もいたのが難点で、もっと個々へのより細かな助言があれば最高だったけれど。。。
Reflecting on one week workshop, it was stimulative to know how fast other Irish fiddle learners absorbed tunes. I had made efforts to some extent so that I could make it to the summer school in one year and two months. It was really meaningful to join, as I could find the higher grade I would like to reach next. Overall, the summer school Scoil Acla was fruitful and I really enjoyed. However, it could be better if they reduce the number of students per class, since we had at least 20 students (in advance class, there were even more than 30 people). In smaller classes, it would be possible for both students and teachers to interact and provide more individual tips and advice.

後日談。
Paddyのクラスから追い出されたおじいちゃん(※我々に追い出した自覚なし)。
1つ下のクラスでその後大人しくやっていたようだが、レッスン中の身の上話が度を越しクラスメイトに冷たくあしらわれ(？)、木曜から姿を消したという。。。
なかなか面白い展開をもつ人だった。
A sequel to the story: The old man who was removed from the class (we did not really recognise nor do such things, though). It seemed he behaved well in the class at first, but he spoke about himself too much during the lesson. As his classmates treated cold (?), he had never shown up at the class since Thursday. He had an interesting circumstances around him over the week!

あぁ、今夏はもう終わりでもまた来年以降またぜひサマースクール行ってみたい！
次は、ドネゴールのフィドラーズウィークかアイルランド最大のクレアでのウィリークランシーかな。。。
今年、リサーチ後にExcelで一覧作ったため日程等アップデートする。
Though summer school season is going to end soon, I definitely would love to participate in summer music camps next year onwards. What’s next? Maybe my next target will be the fiddlers week in Donegal or the biggest Irish music summer school, Willie Clancy in Co.Clare? I am going to update the details on excel file that I made after some hard work and  research this year.

街が虹色に染まる日/ A day coloured rainbows

6月19日～28日はThe Dublin LGBT Pride Festivalが開催され、
期間中最も大きなイベントであるパレードが6月27日（土）にダブリンの大通りにて行われた。

During The Dublin LGBT Pride Festival from 19^th to 28^th June, the biggest event which took place was the Pride Parade on the major roads in Dublin city centre.

 

先月行われた国民投票の結果、賛成62%、反対38%（投票率60.5%）で可決され、同性婚が合法化された。国としては、アイルランドは世界初となった。

After the March Referendum on same sex marriage conducted last month, Ireland became the very first nation in the world where same sex marriage was regarded as legal.

 

そうした背景もあり、年に一度の今回のプライドフェスティバル、特にパレードの規模はアイルランド史上最大のものとなったようであり、5万人近くの人々がパレードに参加した。

Due to such background, this annual Pride Festival especially the parade this year was the biggest in Irish history.  In total, around 50,000 people participated in this colourful day.

 

 

 

 

沿道の歓声、パレード参加者の歓声が交じり合い、ダブリンの街が虹色に包まれた。

パレード、と言えばこちらで有名なのが本家アイルランドの毎年3月に行われるSt. Patrick’s Parade。これをはるかに上回るにぎわいと感じた。

The cheers both along the route and from the participants themselves were mixed and the route looked like a rainbow!  When it comes to a parade in Ireland, one of the most famous happenings is the St. Patrick’s day parade, which is held in every March 17th. I felt, however, the Pride Parade had been far more cheerful than the St. Paddy’s one.

 

というのもセントパトリックス・パレードは参加者が国内外から来て、近年では海外からのバンドやパフォーマー等の参加者が目立つ。その様子を地元の人たちがひっそりと遠目から眺めるか、各々の家でテレビ中継を見るかだ。

St. Patrick’s parade is now an internationally recognised event and it is easier to find hundreds of foreign performers and music players in the home of St. Patrick.  The local people rather look at it out of the corner of their eyes, or it’s just another day for an excuse to have some more pints. 

 

驚いたのは、このプライドパレードが本当に地元の人の熱意で成り立っていること。

マルチカルチャーの首都ダブリン。もちろん、国内外からの参加者もいるだろうが、

アイルランドにある企業（外資が多いけれど）が会社名の入った風船を浮かばせて会社を挙げてパレードしたり、手作りの横断幕を下げて、手作りの虹色ドレスを身にまとってパレードしたりしていた。

What surprised me was that this pride parade had more enthusiasm from local people.  Considering the multiculturalism in the capital of Dublin, I guess there were many participants from abroad, but a lot of Ireland based companies participated in the parade flying bunches of baloons.  Otherwise, the crowd wore handmade rainbow coloured dresses and carried banners.

 

また、同性愛カップルのような当事者だけではなく、
その人たちをサポートする周りの層が厚いと感じる。

私の職場にも、そして友人にも同性愛者がいる。

このように多くのグループや組織、家族の中に同性愛者がいるからこそよりそうした人々への理解が深まっていると思う。

Moreover, I felt that gay/lesbian couples did have strong solidarity with each other, and also, they had strong support from those who were around them.   

Actually, I also have some gay friends and colleagues here in Ireland.  Likewise, more and more Irish people tend to have deeper understanding and generosity towards the diversity of people including LGBT, because they know at least a few LGBTs in their community, workplaces, or family. 

 

それにしても20年ちょっとで一つの国がこんなにかわるとは－。

鍵の一つは、アイルランド人の柔軟性と寛容性。

It is, however, still amazing to see such a rapid social change in one country within only two decades.  The key is, I believe, the flexibility and generosity of Irish people.

人口約430万人のうち約85%がカトリック教徒の国。

1993年まで同性愛が犯罪とされており処罰の対象となっていた他、1996年まで離婚が認められなかった。2010年にシビルパートナーシップ法が成立し、異性同士の結婚と類似した法的権利が認められた。それから5年後の今年、同性婚が合法化された。

Out of the whole population, around 4.3million, Christians account for approximately 85%.  Up untill 1993, homosexuality had been regarded as a crime and it had been subject for punishment.  Furthermore, divorce had been illegal until 1996.  When the Civil Partnership Law was approved, legal rights, which were similar to the marriage between different sexes, had been approved.  After five years, same sex marriage has been legalised this year at last.

 

アイルランドは1937年の憲法制定以降、国民投票によって30回以上の憲法改正を行っており、国民が直接参加する形で国を創造してきた。

Ireland today has been formed by citizens’participation in referendums and by the amendments to the constitution which has been carried out more than 30 times since 1937, when the constitution was assembled. 

 

19世紀の飢饉を境にして何百万人というアイルランドの人々を移民としてアイルランド国外に送り込んだ国。島の外には大海があることを知る国民。

かつて移民として国外へ渡った人々またはその子孫が新しい思考と共に再び祖国へ戻ってくる。国を変える底力はそうしたアイルランド人の寛容性にあると思う。

Ireland has sent millions of people to other countries as immigrants after the Great Famine in the 19^th century.  People who once emigrated to other continents, or ancestors of them came back to their home bringing a new sense of value.  It seems to me that a potential and motivation for changing the home is the generosity towards new things that Irish people encountered outside the country.  

 

日本と同じ島国といえども、経済規模も人口も土地面積も違うアイルランド。

小さい国だからこそ成せる技かも知れないけれど、国を変えられるのは国民、というのは同じだと思う。明日のアイルランドはどうなっているのだろう。

Even though Ireland is an island country like Japan, its economic scale, population and area size are different from Japan.

These big social changes could have been made due to the small country, but I guess it’s the same in Japan, that it is the citizens who can change their society.

Then, how is the weather like in Ireland tomorrow.  Who knows…?

Women's Mini Marathon

去年の６月バンクホリデー。
ダブリンの街角のイタリアンレストランのテラス席で友人たちと昼間からお酒を飲み、青い空を見上げていたら、チャリティーの女子ミニマラソンが終わったときらしく、どっと女性たちが街に溢れ出て来た。

「へ～、女子マラソン、１０キロなんてあるんだね！」そう話していると、
「じゃあ、もし来年ダブリンにいたら、一緒に出ようか！」という話になった。

あの日からちょうど１年の今日。
あの時話していた他のメンバーの出場は叶わなかったものの、
あの時はまだ知り合っていなかった友人と共に出場した。

あいにくの風雨。

 

前日は雹が降っては晴れ、くもりそしてまた雹・・・とアイルランドらしい変わりやすい天候だったため、今日そんなになったら大変だな～と思っていた。
やはり。
朝は晴れ間も見えていたのにレースの始まる14時からは降水確率90-100%。
おまけに6月とは思えないほど、寒い！！

今まで国内でレースに出たことがないため、RunnerやJogger/Fast joggerなどいくつかカテゴリーがあるものの、一番下のWalkersカテゴリーに入らなければならず、それでもやっぱり走りたいため早めに行ってスタートライン近くに陣取ることにした。
レース開始実に1時間30分前・・・。
もちろんwarm upするスペースもなく、ストレッチや屈伸でさえできない狭く人の密集したところで立って待機。体温が奪われる上に、エネルギーまで・・・。

あと１時間かぁ・・・１時間あったらロンドンに行けるね、なんて話をしつつ、
14時になった。Runnerカテゴリー等が先発。約5分遅れで我々のカテゴリーはスタート。

日本では高校のマラソン大会（10km）にしか出たことがなく10km走るのもその時以来実に8年ぶり！！アイルランドでのレースは今まで見たことがあったから雰囲気はわかっていたけど、
途中何箇所かでライブ演奏があったり、MCが場を盛り上げたり、雨なのに声援がぐっと届いて来たり。

ダブリンで走れてよかった。

今回のコースは家の前を通り、職場の目の前を通り、、、といつも行ったり来たりしているお馴染みの場所を駆け抜ける。次にどんな道が待っているか知っていたから、気持ちの面でも先が見通せて楽だった。

ただ、3万7千人が走ったと言われる今レース。
Walkerカテゴリーから這い上がっていくには既に人が多し。
人をよけながら走らなければならず、コース取りが難しかった！しまいにはN11付近では中央分離帯の芝生を走ってでこぼこ道で足に負担が来たり・・・。

最近慢性的になっていた右横腹の痛み。
呼吸に気を付けるのと、スタートのスペースが狭いとは言え準備運動もし、
そして痛くなりかけたら体を左に反って右の横隔膜を伸ばしながら走ると痛みもなく案外楽に走れた。

周りを見ながら走るけど、視線はある１点に定め、前に人がいて走りづらいな～と思いつつ、と同時にいいターゲットにした。

7km地点のDonnybrookあたりが山場かなと思っていたけど、
雨脚が強くなりつつも、くたばらず一定速度を保って走れた。

残り1km。

次第に沿道の人が多くなってきた。

紫と白の風船で囲まれたフィニッシュラインが見えると、一気に加速。
あれ？まだこんなに力余ってる？と思うほど、大股で走ってスピードも出た。

ゴール後にメダルをもらう。

さすがはアイルランド。
水を配る人、
棒アイスを配る人、
そしてソーセージとブラックプディングを配る人。

もらったメダルに自分の名前とタイムを５ユーロで入れられるということで、入れてもらう。
20-30分くらいかかったけど、すぐタイムを出して、間違えないように刻印して、再び持ち主に戻す。
アイルランドにしては（←）素早く正確な対応で、びっくり！！


レース後は、お決まりの・・・Guinessビールで今日の頑張りと今までの頑張りを労う。
久々にこんなにおいしいギネスビールを飲んだ。

レース後はお決まりのギネス！

アイルランドの海で取れた（自分で採った訳ではない）、海藻をたっぷりと家の湯船に入れて、お風呂タイム！ぬるぬるとした海藻の成分と海のミネラルが染み込んでいくように感じた。

トレーニングをしっかりとしてきたつもりだから（先々週なんて朝3km走って夕方5km走って、とか
朝から仕事前に8km走って～とかしてたから自分でもやる気になればできるだ！とびっくり）、
案外楽に走れた。横腹も痛くならず。
17歳の時の記録と同じ55分（あの時は高低があったからな～）。

まだまだいける。

次は、ハーフマラソンかな！？

アイルランド伝統音楽祭 －スケリーズ編ー The Trad Music Festival in Skerries

ダブリン近郊のスケリーズ（Skerries）という海沿いの小さな街で今週末、アイルランド伝統音楽祭が行われた。この祭りでは、街中のパブや屋外で頻繁に音楽の演奏がある他、ワークショップという形で各楽器に分かれてレッスンが行なわれた。

このフェスティバルは、初心者には向きませんよ、の注意書きが参加要項に書いてあったけど、

フィドルを始めて今月でちょうど１２か月目の私、初心者って何だ？と見て見ぬふりをして参加した。

ワークショップ会場への標識が至る所にあって助かった。

ミュージックレッスンの会場となったのは、街の小学校Scoil Réalt na Mara。

フィドルの他に、次の楽器のワークショップがあった。

• アコーディオン（A/C/C#/D)
• バンジョー（Banjo)
• コンセルティーナ(Concertina)
• フルート
• ハープ
• ティンホイッスル
• イリアンパイプ(Uillean Pipe)

10時からクラスが始まるが、フィドルに関してはクラス分けテストが行われ、約45人の参加者が5人いる先生のクラスに分かれた。

午前は休憩を挟みつつ13時まで、午後は14時から15時半までレッスン。そして、15時半からホールに集まって、上記のすべての楽器の受講者が順番に曲を披露したり、全体で合わせたりした。

 

クラス分けテストでは、45人の受講生みんなの前で1人ずつ演奏しなければならず、緊張した！

小学生の子供から大人までおり、小さな小学生も生意気にも滑らかに音を奏でている。

ウォームアップにドレミ♫の音階を弾くだけでも、音が違う！

テストをする先生は、生徒が２～３小節だけ弾いただけで「はい、よし！」と宣告する場合も。

 

私は今回は普段行っているミュージックスクールでやらない発展的なことをやりたい！と思い、何を弾こうかな～とちょっと考えた末、１つのテクニックであるDouble Stop（重音）を入れてDrowsy Maggieでトライ。

 

・・・・・・。

今までの練習でこんなぐだぐだで酷いDrowsy Maggie弾いたことない！ってほど、

自分史上めちゃくちゃな最低の１曲に。最初から引き直したいくらいだった。

いや、冗談じゃなくほんとにやばいレベルのひどさ。なんか一気にテンション暴落。。。

 

「はい～じゃあ、名前を呼ばれたらそれぞれの先生について行きましょう～♪」と言われてそれぞれ別室に分かれていく。１クラス10人くらい。

私は、最後に名前が呼ばれた。「あんたたち3人はここに残ってね」と。

100点満点のテストだとしたら0～20点をとった落ちこぼれ組ってところかと思ったけど、

私たち3人のレベルも同じ...かな？って感じで、粒の揃っていない我ら。

 

ということで、2人の10歳の女の子に25歳のおばさん1人。

2人とも体は小さいけど、飲み込み早いし、おばさんよりもちろん英語がうますぎだし、ただの体が小さい大人。ただ、先生が部屋から一瞬いなくなると、教卓に立って「はい、静かに！」と叫んで、絵本のBible取り出してなんかジェスチャー付きで朗読し始めたり、「曲の前半はあんた、後半はあんたね」といきなり仕切りだしたりして先生と生徒ごっこが始まる。超かわいい笑。小学校に留学しに来た錯覚が。



会場となった小学校の教室。先生がいなくなるとやりたい放題。

先生は、私がまだ始めて１２か月ということに驚いてくれつつ、

「違うクラスでもよかったのだけど今日は限られた時間だし、あなたにはボーイングの基礎とか、テクニックをきちんと身につけて帰ってほしいから私のクラスにしたのよ」と。

基本をないがしろ？にして、重音とかテクニックモノに走ろうとしてた背伸びした自分がクラス分けテストの数小節で見抜かれていたなんて・・・！

 

この特別クラスでは、あとの２人が好き放題やっている間に、ボーイングのやり方（ちゃんと法則があるなんて知らなかった！）とか、応用の装飾音符の中でもロールの弾き方を4種類あってね、と全体像を掴みつつ１つ１つを１対１で教えてくれて、目からウロコ！そうそう、ただ曲を弾きこなすのではなくこういう指導を今日求めてた！という痒いところに手が届いた感覚。



ちょっと一息、休憩時間に海岸へ出た。

時間は限られていてもなんとなく広く浅くやったな、じゃなくて今日これできた！って小さいことでも、思える日になって、かなり有意義な１日に。

最後は、全楽器奏者とLucy Farr's Barndanceを合わせて、フィナーレ！

この後、街のセッションにも参加し、伝統音楽漬けの一日に。 

たくさんなことを学べた、ディープな土曜日だった。

Experience Japan/ Experimenta Japón

ダブリンが、いやPhoenix Park内迎賓館Farmleighが日本一色で染まる日、Experience Japan Day(EJ)。
第6回目の今年も同会場で行われた。そして去年に引き続き仕事で出勤。
（しかも個人的には任期中最後のEJとなった。）

“Experimenta Japón” es un día que tiñe con los colores de Japón no todo Dublín pero solo Farmleigh en Phoenix Park.

Este evento, que tuvo lugar por sexta vez, ocurró en mismo lugar del año pasado y trabajé en ambos.

前日まで青空、せめて曇り空の日々だったのに当日に限って、まさかの土砂降り。。。
そんな中テンション低めで同僚とtaxiに揺られて早めに現地入り。
。。。寒い・・・！

Hacía buen tiempo hasta el día anterior, pero hubo un fuerte aguacero SOLO el día de la fiesta.

Fuimos a Farmleigh en taxi sin mucha excitación y ¡qué frío!

EJではメインステージで音楽や踊りのパフォーマンスがあったり、
テントで日本食屋台が出たり、
書道や折り紙ワークショップ、
子供のためのヨーヨー釣り（これが案外大人もエキサイトしてた）、
柔道、剣道、空手等の武道の演武などが同時に行われている。

En esta fiesta,EJ(Experimenta Japón), había muchos eventos al mismo tiempo.

Por ejemplo, un grupo de chicos tocó los instrumentos musicales y bailaron en el escenario principal.  Además, había puestos de comidas japonesas,  talleres de origami y caligrafía, y los niños, en realidad incluso los adultos, pescaron los yo-yós.  Es más, toda la gente disfrutó de otras actividades como ver artes marciales (judo, kendo, karate y etcetra).

去年と同じく私が好きなのは、日本の太鼓とアイルランドのリバーダンスとのコラボ。
リバーダンスは「ダンス」のはずなのだが、目を閉じればまるで太鼓のような音がする。
「ダンス」であるものが一つの国境を越えた「音楽」になっていることに今年も同様に感銘を受けた。

Algo que me gustó mucho fue la actuación conjunta del “riverdance” irlandés y los bombos tradicionales japoneses.  El “riverdance” es un tipo de baile tradicionál irlandés, pero sonaban los bombos si cerrábamos nuestros ojos. Era impresionante que, aunque era un baile, todos los sonidos se fundían para crear una música nueva.

仕事で色んなところでちょろちょろしていたが、
ちょっとそこまで100m歩いて移動するだけでも友人や同僚に会って話して、
花見フェスティバルらしく花を見て（今年はまだ温かくて、お花もかわいくきれい）、
楽しんだ。

Paseaba por la parque mientras trabajaba. 

En solo 100 metros, pude ver y hablar con muchos de mis amigos y compañeros.  Como era la fiesta de las flores, me divertía viendo flores, también.

気づいたら現場の写真がないため、Trinity Collegeの桜。

 去年は8千人が来たと言われた本イベント。
今年は2万8千人が来たとの一部報道。確かに人は来たけど、そこまで？という感じ。
同じPhoenix Park内にある老若男女に人気のDublin Zooの来場者も含めているのでは？と疑ってしまうような数字ではあるが、
天候にも関わらず多くの人に日本を経験してもらえたのでいい日だった。

Según un periódico, 28.000 personas participararon en este evento en el año pasado.  Por otro lado, el periódico dijo que 28.000 personas vinieron en solo un día este año. 

Creía que había mucha gente, pero no tanta.  Tengo dudas sobre esta estadística.  Tal vez el número incluyera la gente que visitaba el Zoo de Dublín en el mismo Phoenix Park.  De todas formas, pasamos un día fantástico porque toda la gente pudo experimentar la culutura japonesa sin importar el mal tiempo.

 

朝活 -Asakatsu-

就活、婚活、終活など最近の日本では様々な「活動」があるようだ。

Recently I’ve become more aware of various kinds of activities in Japan to prepare for the future such as Syukatsu (job-hunting),

Konkatsu(Mr.Right/Ms.Right-hunting), and another Syukatsu(getting our affairs in order eg.making a will etc.) and other activities.

ここ２年日本に帰っていないためメディア等で小耳に挟んだことだが、
現代日本には「朝活」というものがあるらしい。
その名の通り、「（通勤・通学前など）朝にする活動」。
と言っても、お弁当作りや歯を磨くこと、着替えなどのような日常の習慣ではなく、
定義は曖昧であるが、趣味や運動、語学レッスンなど生産的な自分磨きのような要素をもった活動を意味するようである。

There is an activity of Asakatsu in contemporary Japanese society, which I’ve only hearf of through media, as I have not been to Japan for good two years.  Literally, it means any activities we do in the morning before going to school or work.
However, it does not include your routine such as cooking your lunch box, brushing your teeth or changing your clothes.  The definition of the buzz word is a bit ambiguous, but it basically means the productive activities meant for improving your skills or abilities, for instance, working on your hobby, doing exercise and joining language lessons in the morning. 


私は最近、そんな「アイルランド版朝活」を実践している。
最近始めた「朝活」が水泳だ。
Recently, I have been putting the Asakatsu –The Irish version- into practice, which is swimming.

高3まで6年間、競泳選手として数々の大会に出つつ、1回の練習で2,500m（1時間)から多い時で10,000m（3時間）を泳ぎ込み、週に10回もの練習をこなしていた（ご存知のように１週間は7日間ですよね）。
高3の夏を以て選手生活にピリオドを打ったが、それ以降も今日に至るまでマイペースで無理なくゆるりゆるりとプールを見つける度に泳いできた。

Until I was a third grade student in my high school, I had practiced for lots of swimming galas as a competitive swimmer for six years.  So much so that I used to swim 10 times a week between 2500 m/h per session and 10,000m/3 hours.  As you know, a week consists of 7 days, doesn’t it?

 

I stopped swimming competitively in the summer of the final grade at my high school.  However, I still love swimming whenever I have a chance. 

 

 

ダブリンに引っ越してからもプールハンターと化し、地道に泳いできた。
ラグビーやハーリング等のGAAのお国柄、不思議とプールが少ない。
公立50mプールは指で数えられるほど。2012年のロンドンオリンピックの練習施設として作られたNational Aquatic Centreはさらに数少ない国際規格の50mプールがある。
あとは、学校に併設したプールの一般開放に合わせて侵入するのが主流となっている。
どこへ行っても、コースはがら空きで時にlazyに、時にストックにやりたい放題やる日々。
Since I moved to Dublin, I have been passionate about finding swimming pools.

There are not so many swimming pools around Ireland, apparently there are much more GAA fields for Gaelic football and hurling, which are the national sports here in Ireland.  We can even count with the fingers how small number of 50m pools in use.  The National Aquatic Centre, which was built to use as the training facility for the London Olympic Games in 2012, has an excellent official 50m pool.  Usually, there is plenty of room to swim freely in this pool.

そんなある日、家から割と近くにあるBlackrockのプールでマスタースイマーを対象とした朝練が行なわれていることが発覚。半年以上前に発見していたものの、想像の中のみで泳ぐ日々。
One day, I randomly found a morning swim session for master swimmers on the Internet.  In my head I could picture myself in this class.


でも、ある平日の休日にたまたま朝5時前に目が覚めて、「時が来た」と悟り、行ってみた。
On chilly February morning on a weekday-off, I unintentionally woke up at crazy 5 am.  I suddenly realized, “the time has finally come”, and headed for the session.


早く着いたため、朝7時からウォームアップを始める。
おじさんに追いやられ「Fast lane」で泳ぐ。同じコースに人が入り始めてきた。
はじめの挨拶などなく、予定通り7時15分頃からなんとなく始まる。
As I arrived early, I started warm-up at 7am.  A guy drove me to the fast lane and others joined the same course as me.  With no verbal greetings, only their splash said the training had begun.

 

メニューはあらかじめあるのではなく、コーチがその場でホワイトボードにちょこちょこ書き連ねていく。
At first there was no schedule.  And then, a coach started writing it down little by little.


この日は同じコースに私を入れて5人。
ちょっと泳ぐだけで、相手の泳力がわかる。お互いあまり言葉でどうこう言わないけど、
お互いがお互いの力量をものの3分でわかっていた（と思う）。
There were five swimmers in our lane.  I found their abilities and (I believed) they found mine less than in three minutes, though we had not spoken so much.


自分が泳ぐの早い、とかは思わないけど、
自分より強い人がいる、というのが衝撃だった。
この人たちと一緒に練習したい、と思えるスイマーと7年ぶりに出会えた。
I had not thought I was a good swimmer, but I was challenged to find the fact that somebody else was stronger than me.  At last, I could meet some teammates whom I would love to practice with for the first time in 7 years.


約半年ぶりにいきなりこんなに泳いだが、案外練習についていける。
やっぱり一度身体に染みついたものはなかなか抜けないもんだ。
練習メニューを見てもわかるが、キックが少ない。そして、みんなキックが遅い。
そのかわり、プル（手だけで泳ぐ）が圧倒的に強い、パワー系。
50m×4本（50秒)が2セットもあり、さすがに全てはまわれなかった。
I haven’t swum so intensively for ages, but I could manage to do it.

It seemed that it was not so easy to forget, once the body had remembered and aquired the skills.

As the training schedule shows, we did not have much practice for kicking.  They were actually weak at kicking, and by contrast, strong at pulling.  I could not do well at the pulling with 2 sets of 50m×4 times(time limit: 50seconds).

8時15分すぎ、そそくさとプールを出る人たち。
みんな平然と職場に戻り、これから平然とさわやかに仕事をするんだ。
At 8:15am, the teammates left the pool quickly.

I imagined they would be off to work calmly, and would be refreshed in their offices.

また「明日来るね？」と聞かれ、
「あ～っと、えっと、明日は筋肉痛になるはずだから～」とぬるいお茶で濁す。
A guy in the same lane asked me, “then are you coming tomorrow as well, eh?”.  I looked up in an ambiguous way, “Umm..well…I’m gonna suffer from a muscle pain tomorrow,you know, so…”


いい練習だった。
It was a good training anyway.


・・・翌朝、なぜか再び午前5時に目が覚めた。
今日は筋肉痛になるから行かないはずだった。
In the following morning, I don’t know why, but I woke up at 5am sharp again.  I was supposed to get a muscle pain, and would not have been to the session that day.


でも、気が付いたらプールの前にいた。2800m、今日は正真正銘、仕事前の「朝活」。
「朝活のすゝめ」。
However, I found myself in front of the same swimming pool.  We swam 2800 metres, this was my very first day of the‘proper’ Asakatsu, right before work.


職場にいる誰よりもさわやかな朝を迎えられる。
そんな健康的な夢遊病者のような生活が病みつきになりそう。
Anyone except me in the work place can appreciate the best crisp morning.

I will be addicted to this healthy way of life, but perhaps a bit of a sleep-walker like life also.

サンタも走る師走。

 

たまたま去年の手帳を開いて、去年の今頃は何してたかな～？とぼんやりページをめくっていた11月某日。12月第一週の日曜に「Santa Dash」と書かれていた。

「・・・！」
そうだ、Santa Dashを見に行きたかったけどやめたことを思い出した。
そしてその3秒後、「よし、今年は出てみよう！」と思い立った。レース本番の10日前のこと。

翌日、アイルランド人同僚にこんなイベントがあるけど、一緒に出よう！と誘って、
「ちょうど私、昨日久々にランニングしたの！いい目標ができた！」と、あっさり決定。
私もここアイルランドに来て最初のレース、そして高2ぶりのなんと！8年ぶりのレース！
当日までは週末、平日含めかなりタイトスケジュールだったが何とか朝、仕事帰りなど時間をつくって3回ほど（各4.5km弱を23分で走る）トレーニングをやった。

参加費25EURには、当日着てゴールしないと走ったことにならない勝負服サンタコスチュームの他、完走メダル、レース後の水、スナック、紅茶等も含まれており、ダウン症の人たちへの寄付も行うチャリティーイベント。

12月7日（日）快晴。
ダブリンで一番好きな場所の一つ、North Bull IslandでSanta Dashは行われた。
ここは砂州となっているため時間・季節によって干潮・満潮になる。レースの3時間前まではスタート地点は水の中だったようだ。

14時すぎ。
さすがのアイルランド、スタート時間が予定よりもずれ込む。
浜辺で冷たい風になんやかんや20-25分は立っていたため、一緒に出た同僚と温泉浸かりたいね、と早くもそんなことを話しつつ号砲が鳴った。

5Kと10Kの部があり、２部門一斉にスタート！

約1500人のサンタクロースさんたちと一緒にスタート！

後ろにはWicklow mountainsを望む。

コースは、全て浜辺で、まず北上して折り返しさらに南下した後、スタートした中間地点へと戻るコース。向かい風の時がきつかったが、前に見えるHowthの見え方によってあとどれくらいかな、というのを想像しながら走る。


Howthが今日も美しい！

折り返すと、すれ違う人たちがみーんな赤くて、みんなひょこひょこ動いていて、すごい光景だった・・・笑。圧倒的！アイリッシュ湾の向こうに見えるHowth半島や青い空を見ながら、楽しく走れた～
ラスト1kmくらいかな、というところでスパートをかけようかと思ったが、それからゴールまで横腹が痛くなり最後までは頑張れず・・・28分04秒で5Kグループ全体の68位。もっと上げたかったけどね...

 

 

翌朝の新聞の一面になった。私の足も映っている。

終わった後に、温かい紅茶を飲みながらビスケットを芝生に上で食べて、
5kmはやっぱりあっという間だったけど、楽しかったな～と。
最近はこのサンタランがUK/Irelandから広まってまさに同じ日に日本でも何箇所でか行われていたもよう。
大好きな場所で、気持ちよく走れてよかった！またダブリンで走ろう～♫
それにしても、やっぱ目標があるって素晴らしいこと。このSanta Dashあるから～と時間をやりくりしてトレーニングしたけど、これが終わったらめっきり走らなくなった。。。
次のレースは、（人数が集まれば）職場単位のStaff Relay（５月）かWoman's mini marathon（６月）かな～？

8年ぶりにもらったメダル。全4種類ある。

クリスマスツリー市場調査

12月になって、アイルランドではお決まりの天気の話題と共にクリスマスの話題があいさつ程度に交わされる時期になった。

街はクリスマスプレゼントを買う人たちでごった返し、
両手に紙袋を抱えた人たちが満員のカフェで束の間の一服を楽しみ、
夜にはダブリンの２大歩行者天国であるGrafton StreetやHenry Streetのイルミネーションが映え、
パブにはこの時期の名物12件（なぜ12件かは不明...）をはしご中の、点滅するライトつきのクリスマスジャンパー（セーター）を着た若者グループで溢れ返っている。

アイルランドの家族がみんな揃って特に楽しみにしているのが生のクリスマスツリーの購入とその飾りつけ。
もちろん人工のツリーを飾る家庭もあるようだが、生の木も手軽に入り、オフィスや我が家のツリーも去年の如く生モミの木。
アイルランドでは大小様々な1200万本が植林されており、クリスマスツリーと言えば主に次の3種類のもよう。

• 　　The Noble Fir
•      Lodgepole Pine
•      Norway Spruce

今年は、11月最終週から12月第1週までのところで、8件のツリーのお店・スタンドをまわった。
そこで、枝ぶりや形といった品質や高さ、値段を（頭に）インプットして比較する。

 

去年ツリーを買ったN11沿いのスタンドは、今年はまだ4~5Ft（120-150cm）ほどの小さめのツリーがなく、最低でも65EURとかだったため、退散。

N11の国道横に期間限定で出るクリスマスツリー屋。

どこもこの時期は、大きめのツリーしかないみたい・・・。
あと、今年はどこも1Ft=10EURで販売する傾向にあり、5Ftで50EUR、6Ftで60EURとか。。

Bord BiaのFacebookページでたまたま見つけた、チャリティーのツリーGiveawayイベント。
Irish Christmas Treesが500本の4Ft(約120cm)のツリーをJack & Jill Children's Foundationに寄付。一般向けに破格の16EURで販売し、木1本の売り上げが1時間の子供向け在宅ケアの費用になるという。

と、言う訳でチャリティーにも貢献できるし、お手頃な価格・木のバランスがよくて良質ということもあり、ここで購入することに！


お気に入りのツリーが見つかったらネットに入れて持ち帰り。

クリスマスツリーを買って、なんだか嬉しくなった。
ツリーを手にするとうれしくなるのはここアイルランドの人も同じで、そんな笑顔を見るとほっこりとする。
クリスマスまであと2週間。
日本でいう歳末の慌ただしい雰囲気に似たものがアイルランドでも繰り広げられる。

我が家のツリーはシンプルな飾りつけ。
