Dublinのランドマークサイクリング/ Cycling to the landmark of Dublin

What is one of the most popular landmarks in Dublin?
---It's the poolbeg generating station, so called the Pigeon House.

The Poolbeg Power Plant has been in use since 1903 and nowadays we can see images of the landmark on various stationary and graphic design pictures/paintings around the town.  It has become a widely known Dublin landmark over many generations.

I was hanging around at home this Sunday morning.
Meanwhile I was checking the sky to see the best time to take my short cycling trip to the red Poolbeg lighthouse for the first time.

The cycle of being cloudy and sunny, and again cloudy...it's endless.
Typical Dublin weather!!

The sun was getting lower and lower, so I set off by bike.
A good five minutes later...here we go..it started raining!!
That was the very moment I arrived at the Poolbeg Power Plant area.
Now it was raining heavier but I wanted to go to the lighthouse that day for some reason!
My back saw the Poolbeg towers while gliding on the cobblestones towards the Poolbeg lighthouse.

A number of other people who could not predict the weather either were walking alongshore.  Everybody was soaked to the skin.
The two-km-stone-road was really rough and my bike nearly got a flat.
There was no fence on the pavement which made it easier for me to see the ferries from/to the UK come and go in the Irish Sea.

At last, I arrived at the lighthouse.
It looked closed and I could not see the inside at all, but I was happy enough to make it in such a wild day and to come right under the lighthouse, which I always had seen from my workplace and around the strands.

Poolbeg lighthouse

Now that I came here, I needed to turn back.
Again the rain whipped my face, feet and the whole body.  It was hard to see anything.
I wondered why these stony roads were so rough.  After a second, I realised it might be due to not only the material itself but due to the structure of the sideway stones.

If the stones had been crossed lengthways, this wharf would have been more cyclist-friendly.  Maybe it was because of preventing from erosion by the waves and salt breeze.  I was not sure but there must have been a certain reason why our ancestors had to take the trouble to connect the stones sideways.

Anyway I came back to the Poolbeg Power Plant.

I noticed there was a famous car park where the film “Parked (2014)” had been filmed.

It was unexpected to cycle around for two hours because I thought it would take me a half an hour or something.

I will make, literally, “hot” hot chocolate in front of the fire place when I come back to my place.
When I looked up the sky again, the rain, which had been raining lengthways and sideways stopped completely.

It was a real Dublin cycling Sunday.
