2度目のSt. Patrick's Day

3月7日（金）、アイルランドの地に足を踏み入れて、ちょうど１年が経った。
新天地で、公私共に色んな経験ができて、色んな人に出会って、自分の中にも変わった部分と変わらなかった部分が混在する。

アイルランドでのサイクルを１通り経験したことで、あとの２年間をどう過ごしたいのか改めて考えるきっかけになった今日この頃。

アイルランドで迎える当地最大のお祭り、St. Patrick's Dayが今年もやってきた（去年は、着任して迎えた２回目の週末。あの日のことがまるで２週間前に起きたことのように鮮明に思い出せるのに、時の流れは残酷に思えるほどほんとに早い！）。
この３連休がある週前後は、街にいる人々だけでなく、街全体が緑色の衣装に衣替え。

また、最大の見物（！？）パレードに限っては、今年は２か所で見物した。
もともと例年のようにダブリンのパレードには繰り出すつもりではいたが、
連休前日になってアイルランド人同僚が
「そもそもSt. Patrick's Dayというのは、大都市でわ～っとやるというよりも、もともとは各地方のコミュニティーのお祭りなんだよ」
という言葉を聞いてはっとした。
そこで、ぜひアイルランドの地方のパレードも見てみたい、と急に思い立って出かけてみた。
(日程・地理上の関係から）選んだのはCarlow。

 地元の消防団やテニスや空手などのスポーツクラブ、色とりどりの「国籍」の人が集まる多国籍クラブ、イベント（ボールプール等を扱う）会社などその土地に根付く企業、民間団体など地域コミュニティーの見えるこぢんまりとしたパレードで、なかなか面白かった。

そして、ダブリンのパレード。
今年は、地元の人も驚くほど（天気がよかったせい？）例年にも増して、多くの人がのこのこ見物にやってきていたそうな。写真上のトリニティー大学・Bank of Ireland前の群衆もご覧の通り。
（去年、「来年こそは、はしごを持参するぞ！」と軽く思っていたけど、やっぱ持ってくるの忘れてた～(*´Д｀)じゃあ来年は、肩車でもいいかなww）

スコットランドのバグパイプの音で始まり、太陽の男が登場したり、
アメリカからのマーチングバンドやエストニアからの一群が路を練り歩いたり、、、
あれ、あんまりアイルランド要素がないぞ！？というのも、なんか多国籍の人が住むダブリンらしかった。

その後は、St. Patrick's Day恒例になりつつある中華（そもそもこういう祝日のこのパレード後なんかでも開いてるのは、さすがの中華。）を友人と食べて、
適当にThe International Barでお決まりの１パイントのGuinessタイム。
アイリッシュ音楽の生演奏つきで、まったりな月曜祝日の午後。

これ以上街中にいるとdisasterの目撃者（あれだけの人がパブでどんちゃん騒ぎした後の街は想像に容易いと思われ。）となり兼ねないため、そのまま北上して、今年のSt.P-Dayを終えた。

本場・アイルランドでのSt.Patrick's Day、少なくともあと２回経験できるのか。
来年は、どんな気持ちでこの日を迎えているのだろう。。

Los Latidos del Corazón

El mes pasado, fui a la Sala Nacional de Conciertos en Dublín para ver una actuación de tambores tradicionales de Japón.  Los tamborileros japoneses, KODO, nos dieron un concierto increíble.  KODO son unos músicos de tambores (taiko 太鼓) de renombre internacional.  Ellos están viajando por Europa y han visitado Dublín por primera vez en dos años. 

El auditorio principal, donde se puede acomodar a 1200 personas, estaba lleno.  Estaba impresionada por los "latidos"(sonidos) de los tambores.  Ellos estaban tocando tanto que creí que tocar los tambores podría considerarse un deporte.  Había muchos tipos de actuaciones con tambores pequeños con shakuhachi (尺八), una flauta de madera tradicional de Japón.  Especialmente cuando dos hombres musculosos tocaron un gran bombo, me impresionó muchísimo porque sentí una unión de los corazones de toda la gente.

Después de la actuación, mis amigos irlandeses preguntaron mucho sobre ella.  Por ejemplo: ¿qué significa en inglés la letra que los bateristas cantaron?, o ¿cómo interpretas el nombre de esta gira "KODO: One Earth Tour" después de ver la actuación?  Además, ¿entendiste la historia de la actuación?  A mí me parece difícil responder a todas, pero me alegré al ver que la gente irlandesa intentó entender unos aspectos profundos de la cultura de Japón.

Last month I went to see a Japanese traditional drum performance at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.  A Japanese drum performers, Kodo, gave us an amazing concert there.  Kodo is an internationally known drum (taiko) performers.  They were formormed in the Sado Island in Niigata and now spend 1/3 of a year abroad.  This time they were on the European tour and came to Dublin for the first time in two years.

The main auditorium, where could accommodate 1200 people, was completely full.  Moreover, I was overwhelmed by the strong "heatbeat" of the drums.  Because they played so hard, I felt playing the drum could be even sports.  Maybe there will be a part of the events in coming Tokyo Olympic games in 2020?  Anyways, there were many different kinds of wonderful sessions: a session with smaller drums or with shakuhachi, a Japanese traditional wooden flute.  Especially, when two muscular guys played one big drum together, I was impressed so much because I felt the hearts of the audience became one. At the same time, the performers' sense of unity with the audience seemed to add even greater depth to their performance.

After the performance, not only I got a lot of positive impressions from Irish people, but I was asked so many questions about their performance such as:
What's the meaning of the lyrics in English the performers sang?  How did you interpret the name of the tour "Kodo: One Earth Tour" after the performance?  Did you see the story of the performance? These were really interesting but tough questions to answer, but I was glad to find that Irish people were really keen on them and tried to see the deep aspects of our culture.
